My big vacation
Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Next Monday at 4:50 p.m. I will be aboard a "big ol' jet airliner" (does this ring a bell with anyone? How about, I'd rather fight than switch?) heading off to Turkey to visit with family I've not seen in 17 years. Needless to say, I'm very excited and can't wait to go. Of course I've got tons of loose ends to tie up here at work and home. One task at hand was adding this post to my blog.

You won't be hearing from me for three weeks. My first stop is in Istanbul. Then I head down to the coast to a city called Marmaris where I'll board a boat with 15 other friends and family members to barefoot along the Med. After that back up to Istanbul and then over to Ankara for a few days to connect with more family. I'll be taking the overnight sleeper train, which is one of my favorite things to do ever since I was six and my family did it the first time. I might now be 45 but the 6-year-old within still lives! Then back to Istanbul and then home.

To tie this post in to the theme of One by One I thought I'd point out that Amway Turkey through the One by One Campaign sponsors UNICEF's childhood vacination program. You can learn about what other Amway markets are doing to help kids live better lives by visiting the Alticor One by One website. You'll read some very wonderful stories and see touching videos of the programs we support worldwide. Just click on "stories of success" or "activities by market to learn more."

Below are pictures of the boat I'll be on and a couple other Turkey pictures for your viewing pleasure. Did you notice how now that I know how to post photos, I can't seem to stop myself?

See you in September...(this should ring a bell with those a few years older than me!)

The blue boat.

Where I'll be lounging one week from Saturday!

Our dining room.

Bon Apetite!

Leyla, do you have a spare suitcase to hide me in? Have a great holiday. We'll be looking forward to your blogs when you get back. Ken

I had pictured a wide scow-ish canal boat, but that blue (what a blue!) boat says it all. Have a wonderful time, Leyla. We all know how long and sometimes hard your last years have been. They're past. You've put them to rest. Now it's time to start blowin' down that road! http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/lynyrd+skynyrd/call+me+the+breeze_20086063.html

Thanks Ken and Cathy.

I've got 5 2 gig memory cards to fill with pics and videos. When I get back I'll have to learn how to post videos.

My family overseas anxiously awaits my arrival and I can't wait to see them as well. I know they'll spoil me rotten...there goes that kid inside me!

Cathy...on an ironic note, one of my cousins just got a job in Almaty, Kazakhstan and he works at some brand new high end hotel. Too bad he wasn't there last year!
